Mother Vine Market is a small, owner-operated market—and there are just two of us running the entire operation!
Being closed doesn't necessarily mean we're taking the day off. Wednesday, for example, is one of our busiest workdays. We spend the day sourcing and picking up produce, picking up milk, receiving and meeting with vendors, stocking refrigerators and freezers, setting up displays, and getting everything ready for the market to open.
We also maintain the property, gardens, greenhouse and high tunnel surrounding the market, along with all of the behind-the-scenes work that goes into running a small business.
And, like everyone else, we have a family and personal responsibilities that need our attention too.
Our schedule allows us to keep Mother Vine Market stocked, maintained and operating the way we want it to while still keeping the business manageable for two people.
Yes! Mother Vine Market is open year-round!
During January and February, we take Thursdays off, but remain open on our normal Friday, Saturday and Sunday schedule.

Every Wednesday we publish our weekly "In the Market" update with a rundown of what's arriving for the week, including seasonal produce, milk and dairy, meats, baked goods, new products, restocks and other things worth knowing before you visit.
Because we're a small market working with small farms and producers, inventory can change quickly and some items do sell out.
Mother Vine Market is a small retail farmers market and local-food market in west Little Rock.
Rather than individual vendors setting up booths each week, we source products from farmers, growers, bakers, makers and other producers and bring them together in one market.
That means you can shop local beef, pork, chicken and lamb, milk and dairy, eggs, produce, baked goods, honey, pantry products, wellness items, plants, garden products, gifts and more in one stop.
Our selection changes throughout the year depending on what's available from our farms and producers.
Local and regional sourcing is one of the biggest priorities at Mother Vine Market.
We work with farms, food producers, bakers, artists and makers throughout Arkansas and the surrounding region whenever possible.
Not every item in the market can be grown or produced locally year-round. Produce is a good example. Arkansas has wonderful seasonal produce, but there are times of the year when certain fruits and vegetables simply aren't available locally. When that happens, we may supplement our selection with quality produce from outside the region.
We try to be transparent about where our food comes from, so if you're curious about the origin of something, just ask us.

We grow a variety of seasonal vegetables, herbs, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers and other crops here at Mother Vine Market, but our gardens aren't large enough to supply everything you'll find inside the market.
We also source produce from Arkansas growers and regional farms, along with carefully selected produce from farther away when something isn't available locally.
That combination allows us to offer a much broader selection while still giving local produce priority whenever it's available.
That's part of shopping from small farms and producers.
Crops are seasonal. Chickens don't lay exactly the same number of eggs every week. Milk production changes. Small-batch bakers and makers have production limits. Weather affects farms. And sometimes our customers simply buy something faster than expected.
We'd rather work with smaller producers and deal with occasional shortages than turn Mother Vine Market into a conventional grocery store.

Absolutely—and some items can sell out quickly.
Many of the farms and small producers we work with can only supply us with limited quantities. Popular items such as seasonal produce, specialty baked goods, milk, certain meat cuts and limited-production products may sell out before the end of the weekend.
For the best selection, shopping earlier in the market week is usually your best bet.
We try to follow the seasons as much as possible.
Spring might bring strawberries, greens and early vegetables. Summer brings tomatoes, cucumbers, squash, corn and other warm-season crops. Fall brings a completely different mix.
Weather can also have a major impact. A freeze, excessive rain, drought or extreme heat can dramatically change what local farms are able to harvest.
That's one of the things we enjoy about a market like ours—you get to watch the seasons change through the food that's available.
We're always interested in discovering great local and regional products that might be a good fit for the market.

Please don't come to the market during business hours to make an in-person sales pitch. With only two of us working, we're usually helping customers, stocking products or handling checkout, and it can be very difficult to give a potential vendor the attention they deserve.
Submitting your information ahead of time gives us a chance to actually look at your products and determine whether they are a good fit for Mother Vine Market.
Submitting an application does not guarantee that we will be able to carry a product. Space is limited, and we try to maintain a balanced selection without adding too many vendors offering the same type of item.
